Oil prices hit record on Iran output concerns
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
CNN International -- NEW YORK (AP) -- Oil prices are holding steady in Asia after falling back from an overnight trading record near $127 a barrel hit on concerns Iran may consider cutting oil production.

Light, sweet crude for June delivery dropped 8 cents to $125.72 a barrel in electronic trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange by midmorning Wednesday in Singapore.

Oil prices hit a trading record of $126.98 a barrel Tuesday before falling back to settle at $125.80.

Analysts said traders reacted quickly overnight to the news that Iran's government was considering cutting crude oil production.

All Iran has to do is say "it may consider" and its enough. They don't even have to say what it is their considering. It assumed that whatever it is, it can't be good for us.

Our enemies who have oil, has learn how to hurt us without firing a shot. Cut production, get richer, and let the speculators finish off the job.

I like RochBear's point of view. It may take a substantial initial outlay, but with the fuel prices continuing to increase there will be an increasingly short payback period.

Keeping the pressure on motorists. On the positive side, it's a powerful incentive to develop alternatives in a hurry.

As long as we are addicted to oil, and need our Fix, we will pay what the "dealer" demands for it.
Go back and read the first artical on the people who have electric vehicals which they charge either on or off grid, but they put enough on the grid that their net fuel bill is ZERO!
Once this country does that, we can tell Iran to eat their oil. When they have oil, but no food, the tables will be turned. You can't eat the stuff.

Stupid question:

If everyone -- be it OPEC as a whole, or individual countries, refineries, or station attendants named Earl -- keeps cutting production, WHERE ARE THE SHORTAGES ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM SUCH PRODUCTION CUTS?!?!?!
If anyone's seen a gas station run out of gas, please do tell us... Cause I drive about 100 miles a day to various places for work and have yet to see one close when employee theft or leaky, old underground fuel tanks weren't the reasons.

This is a buncha crap.

CUT OFF ALL FOREIGN AID TO OIL PRODUCING NATIONS. THEY CAN OBVIOUSLY AFFORD TO DO WITHOUT IT RIGHT NOW!

The Iranians have been waiting for this chance for years. They are laughing all the way to the bank. They are running the U.S. economy into the ground by calmly serving on the OPEC board and keeping supply limited.

There's that word again, SUPPLY. The way to stop them is eliminate our dependence on foreign oil reserves. Drill domestically in the U.S. AND Canada.

Just another excuse for high prices. Iran, Iraq, Africa, South American, it does not really matter which country has problems, since the oil companies use all of them for an excuse to continue to raise the prices.

I get so tired of the "new" reasons to raise oil prices. Why don't they just come out and tell us they love to make money! Maybe they feel a little bit guilty, hence the constant reasons for raising prices.?????

Iran may drop production due to wells not producing as much, but they won't lower production below whatever they can produce.

We are talking third world poor with an expensive government. They will sell as much as they can for whatever price the market bears.

Of course traders reacted quickly to news of Iran's proposed production cut. That's how they make their money... If they can find ways to jack up prices beyond what their futures "buy" contracts are for, that difference is pure profit to them.
